2021 Accomplishments

Below is a list of our activities we have been able to accomplish in 2021 despite the limitations of Covid! We are very proud of our efforts to survive and thrive in this tumultous time.

1) For the third year in a row we have sent postcards welcoming new Democrats to Walton County and encouraging them to sign up for vote by mail.

2) We had Democratic Florida house representatives Anna Eskamani and Carlos Smith speak to us on current legislative issues.

3) We had speakers on topics related to the environment and early childhood education, along with state Democratic Women’s Club issues

.

4) We organized a virtual celebration of Juneteenth.

5) We participated in the Black History parade in Defuniak Springs.

6) We wrote letters supporting the Muscogee tribe’s efforts to become a federally recognized tribe. We also mailed letters to Democrats in neighboring counties encouraging them to vote by mail.

7) We honored several prominent Democratic women in our county for their work on behalf of the club and the party.

8) We sponsored several in person get togethers at Eden Gardens State park, a private home, and local restaurants for Democrats to have the opportunity to meet and brainstorm.

9) We work jointly with the other Democratic groups in our county to promote Democratic goals and ideals.

10) We do service projects. This year we donated money to the Point Washington free clinic and a battered women’s shelter serving county residents. We provided snacks and meals to vaccinators, lifeguards, and firefighters. We donated back packs to children in Defuniak Springs and books to the Muscogee nation’s new library and to a local rehabilitation center for mothers and children

.

11) We have a list of members who receive Action Alerts about legislation pending in the Florida legislature and write to legislators to support or oppose them.

We anticipate 2022 to be a most important year. Both the Governor’s Office and the Senate seat of Marco Rubio are up for election and we will do all we can to be a part of putting Democrats in those positions! I would like to thank you for all of your efforts this year and look forward to working with you in the new year.

If you would like to help out with any of our activities (post card writing, action alerts, programs, service projects) please contact susanbowden4321@yahoo.com. You do not have to attend in person meetings or commit large amounts of time to any of this; everything helps! And donations are always welcome, too!
