We celebrate Juneteenth becoming a national holiday!

Our usual Juneteenth Event had to be canceled in person  this year due to  the impending Tropical Storm , but we held a virtual event with the reading of the Emancipation Proclamation, a visit from a Harriet Tubman live artist, poetry reading, and a lecture about vaccine hesitancy. As many of you know, Walton County Democratic Women and the Walton County Black Caucus joined together back in 2016 to celebrate the history of Juneteenth and have continued that tradition every year. This year, we were excited that as we prepared an outdoor event at the Tivoli Complex, the Congress passed legislation making Juneteenth a federal holiday. Although our Juneteenth was rained out, we gathered virtually to continue our tradition.
