Sat, 1st, 9:00am. – 3:00pm. DeFuniak Springs Home and Garden Show. Shop for plants and garden supplies, clothing, and home décor, enjoy local craft artisans, a pet adoption event and a variety of food trucks. Entry is free, but donations are appreciated. Walton County Fairgrounds, 790 U.S. Highway 83N, DeFuniak Springs, FL 32433.
Sat, 1st, 10:00 – 11:00 am. Camp Helen State Park Guided History Tour. Discover the past, present, and beauty of this state park on a ranger-led walking tour. Dress for the weather, take water and bug spray. Meet at the Visitor Center. Enter the park from 23937 Hwy 98, just past the Walton/Bay County line. Tour is free but there is a small entry fee per car.
Mon 3rd. Celebrate World Wildlife Day by doing something locally. The theme this year is “Wildlife Conservation Finance: Investing in People and Planet. Visit a local state park or St. Washington National Forest, donate to a national environmental group, such as the Sierra Club, the National Audubon Society, or the World Wildlife Fund. Walk on our beautiful beaches, look for nesting shore birds, and if you see trash, pick it up so it doesn’t harm marine life.
Wed, 5th, 10:00 am. Walton County Master Gardeners Lecture ‘Long Live the Perennial’. Come hear Daniel Leonard, the Calhoun County Director of Master Gardeners, talk about Florida Friendly Landscapes and give gardening tips. Thu, 6th, 7:00pm Choctawhatchee Audubon Society’s Evening Presentation: ‘Food Trucks’ for Birds – On the Migration Highway. If you’re interested in learning about and helping the birds that fly over the panhandle, listen to landscape architect Tricia Keffer speak at the Chandler Center, 519 Helms St at the Crosspoint Church in Niceville. Admission is free and open to the public.
Sat, 15th, 7:30am. Choctawhatchee Audubon Society Bird Walk to Blackwater Forest in Okaloosa County. Join leader Doug Adkisson, (850-902-6854) for birding. Meet at the CEFCO Station at 5622 Hwy 4, Baker, FL at the north end of the parking lot. Wear closed-toed shoes and a hat. Take binoculars and water.
Mon, 17th, 9:00 – 11:00am. Topsail Hill Preserve State Park guided plant stroll, guided by Bill Kuenstler, Master Gardener and Master Naturalist. Learn about the many native plants at the park. Meet at tram stop #2. The walk is free but there is a small fee per vehicle to enter the park.
