A ballot petition was launched May 8 to make put the right to women’s health on the ballot for 2024. This ballot initiative has been a year in the making. The supreme court decision Roe vs Wade in 1973, gave all women the right to make an informed consent over their bodies. For 50 years women have enjoyed this right with safe access to abortion. June 24, 2023 this right was overturned by the US supreme court, even with the majority of United States citizens supporting a women’s right to choose. Dobbs vs Jackson’s Women’s Health Organization put the right to decide in the state’s hands. Since then, voters in both parties have been speaking and states are taking back this right. Kansas and Michigan were the first to add a constitutional amendment to ensure the right to reproductive freedom. Several states, including Florida plan to go to the polls in 2024 to let the people, rather than the government, decide what is best for women.
Your doctor, not your government, should be involved in your reproductive choices.
Abortion isn’t partisan, it’s personal. In a recent poll, 67% of Floridians support access to abortion. Only 60% of the vote is required to put this into law.
The petition drive will go through the end of the year, needing to collect 890,000 signed petitions. Stay in touch and find out how you can help move this to the polls in Walton County.
Right now, you can do your part and sign the petition.
